The original 12' high x 12' in diameter R/evolving Circus carousel is in various stages of being modified. The center mast has been disassembled and the various sections have been cut in order for the 'new and improved" circus carousel to be fabricated. The overall process is going well with TIG welding to be part of the next important stage of development. The new carousel will be 8' high x 8' in diameter and human powered. The bicycle in this photograph will be the "new and improved" input power device.

The overall design is based upon an earlier design concept affectionately known as "The Austin Boston Peabody Human Steam and Gerbil Muscle Quantum Magnetics Drive System". That machine was developed in response to my son's request for an explanation to a hideous noise we heard one morning. He was 6 or 7 at the time and really needed to know what had made such an awful noise on the street in front of our home. I said it must have been generated by the aforementioned drive system passing swiftly by. It worked to pacify his curiosity  and continues  with this device. The gerbil will be replaced by a marionette being designed and fabricated by Greta Bell.

There will be more photos and drawings posted in the very near future, perhaps even tomorrow. The hideous noise will not be part of this revised design. There is the potential for an  MP3 device  with a megaphone to be incorporated. This may be done with an ear toward the exploitation of the "Doppler Effect".

The YouTube file attached from "Looney Tunes" cartoon opening theme music is titled "The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down". I certainly hope it doesn't!

A layout design drawing, very "old school" illustrating the right angle drive that will couple the "Austin Boston Peabody Human Steam and Gerbil Muscle Quantum Magnetics Drive System" to the R/evolving Circus Carousel. "Human Steam"/Greta Bell, will overcome the WR^2 of the carousel.

Looks great Jim! I love the drive system! Is there a way to get an Austen that can heat my garage?

Most certainly however it is a very expensive system plagued by design features that are extremely difficult to execute in real time. I would suggest a ducted fan jet or surplus rocket engine. Now that would be something to see..

Jim ... thought about responding to your blog for a couple of weeks now. Your writing is so impeccable that I have been intimidated about saying anything. :) Anyhow, I enjoyed reading about the evolution of the revolution project. Your reference to the "Austin Boston Peabody Human Steam and Gerbil Muscle Quantum Magnetics Drive System" tale that happened when your son was young, reminded me of a similar story. When my son was little, he wanted to know absolutely everything about every sound, every sight he was experiencing. He became so intense about it that eventually it began to drive his dad and I nuts. Finally, his dad started responding to his questions with the same answer over and over and over again. Whenever our son shot a question to us, his dad would say ... "well, that sounds this way ... or that looks that way ... because of the spaghetti in the trees." Yep. The spaghetti in the trees response worked. Our son was pacified. He bought into it hook, line and sinker. Needless to say, we were relieved.

Thank you for the kind words. Kids bring out the best in us if we are awake for them. Sounds as though you and your husband were and I know you were because of the person you are. "Spaghetti in the Trees" sounds as though there may be a new source of inspiration for a book.

Peace, Music & Silence
